Clematis fremontii

A small growing N American herbaceous species found across various C and SE States, but hardly known here. Makes a bushy specimen of non-climbing upright hairy stems, usually around 30 to 40cm high. The very thick textured urn-shaped flowers with recurved, open mouths come in white, shades of lavender, or even dark purple in May and June, followed by attractive seed heads Sun or semi-shade.
