Allium spirale

A native of the Far East and known, bizarrely, as the Korean ageing onion, whatever that's supposed to mean, though other common names are 'spiral onion', 'corkscrew onion', and 'curly chives'. This cute little wild onion has short, distinctly spiralled glaucous leaves and round heads of pale pinky-lilac flowers to 40cm tall in late summer. For sull sun and well drained soil. Used culinarily in its native countries.
