A semi-evergreen naturally occurring fertile hybrid between E. diphyllum (deciduous) x E. sempervirens (evergreen), with many white flowers above the foliage in spring, similar to those of E. diphyllum, but more numerous. Found wild in Japan on limestone formations of the Chūgoku region (Shimane Prefecture) on the main island of Honshu, near the Seto Inland Sea (hence setosum), and apparently also in N. Kyushu or wherever the two parent species meet. Tightly clump forming, reaching about 25cm tall; for humus rich soil in shade.
