Magnolia tamaulipana

Extremely rare in cultivation, this is very closely related to M. grandiflora and originates from a few high altitude localities in NE Mexico. Flowers are large, creamy-white and sweetly scented, less bulky and more elegant than M. grandiflora and the glossy deep-green evergreen foliage emerges a particularly good copper-red. This appreciates warmth is summer though is completely hardy.
