Parrotia persica ‘Bella’
A collection from the Hyrcanian forests bordering the Caspian Sea, where the Parrotia all make upright small to medium trees with level branching, unlike most in cultivation, which are squat and spreading. 'Bella' is a vigorous clone of upright form with foliage that flushes reddish-purple throughout summer and turns to brilliant shades of yellow, orange, scarlet and deep crimson in autumn. Mottled patchwork bark peels in 'jigsaw' like pieces to reveal pale creamy under-bark. Easy and very hardy in most conditions and highly recommended for a warming, drying UK climate.
