Philadelphus palmeri

From the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains in NE Mexico and neighbouring Texas and Arizona, this very rarely encountered little evergreen or semi-evergreen 'Mock Orange' makes a small shrub with arching branches up to about 1m high, with sweetly scented white flowers in June. The small leaves are softly grey hairy under and the flowers are large in comparison to the size of the foliage and the plant. For sun or semi-shade in most soils, this can suffer in extremely cold winters in rural areas, so a sheltered position is advised.
