Vitis ‘Claret Cloak’

A relatively new selection, this is a hybrid of V. coignetiae and another unknown species. Handsome, large, shallow to deeply lobed foliage emerges rich red-purple throughout the growing season, turning dark olive-green, then scarlet in autumn, whitish beneath when young. Strong growing stems can cover walls, pergolas or climb into trees, but are happy to be pruned hard if necessary. Fruit bloomy-purple.
