Iris variegata

A tough Eastern European species, rarely sold or grown but holding an Award of Garden Merit from the RHS. Handsome flowers in June on branched heads; canary-yellow standards with variegated dark-purple and white falls. One of the two original species used to create the tall bearded irises, so well known in gardens. In nature this inhabits dry rocky habitats and is best grown in full sun. 45cm.
