Acer caesium subsp. giraldii

A purely Chinese variant of an otherwise Sino-Himalayan species, this makes a hardy medium sized tree in UK cultivation, to 15m tall, with broad well-lobed foliage held on long deep-red petioles. The young shoots and leaf undersurface are particularly glaucous on this rather bold-looking, though not overly large tree, rarely seen in gardens but tough and easy.
