'Yellow Buckeye'. A medium sized American Horse Chestnut with smaller more elegant, well held foliage than its ubiquitous European cousin, often giving good autumn tints in red and burnt-orange. Soft yellow flowers in May and June. Usually only reaches two thirds the size of Aesculus hippocastanum, making only a medium, as opposed to large tree, though very old trees can eventually reach around 20m tall. The ageing bark develops attractive flaking. Deserving of wider planting and suited to any ordinary soil, this will actually enjoy the extra heat brought by climate change.
