A rarely seen hybrid between Akebia quinata and A. trifoliata with dark maroon flowers borne in pendulous clusters in spring; deliciously scented, especially in the evening or at night. These can be followed by striking pale violet-pink broad sausage-like fruit bearing deliciously sweet flesh, though another clone or species is needed for these to form. Either semi or fully deciduous, depending on the winter, this makes a vigorous climber with attractive foliage, bearing five slim leaflets. Useful for covering virtually any object.
