Aloe striatula var. caesia

The strictly high altitude, greyer leaved and hardier variety from around Molteno in the E. Cape, proven hardy on the Continent to below -10c for short periods. Easily growable outside throughout much of the UK in a sunny, very well drained spot. Usually completely hardy, this can be cut back by rare extreme winters, though usually re-grows strongly from the base. Multi-stemmed to 1.5m, topped by yellow Kniphofia-like flowers with orange anthers in July over the succulent grey-green leaves. Very rare in the UK.
