Althaea cannabina

The Palm-leaf marsh mallow from C and S Europe etc is not a marsh mallow at all, but such is the problem with common names! A tall airy sub-shrub with a woody base and herbaceous stems rising to 2m tall and bearing deeply and attractively lobed foliage. Pink mallow flowers over a very long period from July to September on strong but slim, upright branching stems, lightly clad with the pretty foliage, making a fairly translucent plant. Ideal for sunny sites on most soils, this is very drought tolerant once established.
