Ampelodesmos mauritanicus

A tall impressive evergreen tussock forming grass from the Mediterranean basin with arching upright stems holding pendulous creamy flower heads 2-3m high in summer. The height is offset by the foliage remaining much lower, resulting in a semi-transparent effect. Hardy, v. drought tolerant, therefore highly suited to a warming and drying UK climate; indeed 2026 was a breeze! I've seen this growing in exceptionally dry conditions in Spain and Morocco, yet it's highly amenable under UK conditions. Sun and reasonable drainage.
