Ampelopsis megalophylla

The leaves on this bold, but not overly rampant deciduous climber from Western China can be huge, sometimes up to 60cm long, and are divided into many leaflets in a bipinnate arrangement, turning rich-red or purple in autumn. Bunches of purple ripening black fruit are borne in autumn, and can look rather effective if good pollination has occurred. A noble climber which will happily adorn any support and will grow into a tree to about 9m if allowed, though can easily be kept much smaller. Any ordinary soil in sun or semi-shade.
