The 'potato bean' is a hardy herbaceous climber from eastern N America with attractive pinnate leaves and clusters of sweet pea-like, reddish, scented flowers in summer on twining stems to 5m, smaller if kept potted. Edible beans follow and the large tuber beneath is also edible, with the flavour of nutty sweet potatoes. For sun.
