Aralia chinensis

Huge bipinnate leaves, 1m or more long and 60cm or more wide, have leaflets with downy undersides. Forms a large suckering shrub or small tree with stout spiny stems, though not as armed as A. elata. Conical inflorescences of small white flowers are borne in August and September, followed by splendidly ornamental small black fruit in autumn as the leaves turn to red, orange and yellow. Hardy and easy in most conditions.
