Arctostaphylos canescens

From the summer dry coastal mountains of SW Oregon and NW California this has previously performed very well in the UK, but this genus is so rarely seen these days. Mores the pity as they are totally suited to a climate change future. Grey-green foliage emerges white-woolly, clusters of white or pale pink heather-like flowers in spring and superb deep red-brown bark. Well drained and sunny, to 2m.
