Arctostaphylos hispidula

A collection from the Siskiyou Mts of SW Oregon. A usually small evergreen shrub closely related to Arbutus, to perhaps 1.5m high, for well drained, acid, sandy soils, where it will be very drought tolerant when established. Green ovate foliage, clusters of palest-pink urn-shaped flowers in spring and spectacular smooth, peeling, rich red-brown bark. Very rarely offered in the UK.
