The 'Dutchman's Pipe' from the SE USA is one of the largest leaved in the genus, bearing heart or kidney-shaped foliage to 30cm long. The distinctive flowers are yellowish-green and brownish-purple and up to 4cm long, produced in pairs up the stems in June. This came to the UK as far back as 1763 and has been a serious foliage addition to gardens ever since.
