Astelia ‘Silver Shadow’

A cross between A. chathamica and A. nervosa, making an arresting clump of boldly metallic-silver sword shaped evergreen foliage 1m high by a little more across. Astelias hail from New Zealand and have a look somewhere between a Yucca and a Phormium, but the most silver, like these, looks like nothing else. For sun, if moist, or semi-shade and even dry shade once established, plus a reasonably sheltered position from the worst of winter cold. A bold specimen for a pot, though best protected in winter if grown in this way. Great with brown Carex and Chionochloa rubra, etc.
