Betula dahurica ‘Maurice Foster’

A new selection of this very distinct birch. The bark of the trunk and branches is particularly shaggy, composed of zillions of tightly shredded wisps of paper-thin sheets. In this form the outer bark is a silvery-grey, peeling to reveal a dusky red-brown inner layer. Very hardy and well suited to tough cold sites. Eventually makes a medium sized tree.
