Betula medwediewii

A most distinctive birch from the Caucasus making a large shrub or small tree of broad rounded form with a brush of multiple upright stems to approximately 4m, the bark of which being a shiny pale gold or silver. Distinctly large terminal buds and corrugated leaves, the latter turning to such a good yellow in autumn it earned this tree an RHS Award of Merit. Very early catkins in spring. Hardy.
