Camellia forrestii

The complete opposite of the usual brash and brazen cultivars so popular in gardens, this wild S. Chinese and N. Vietnamese species bears masses of small white lightly fragrant flowers on each shoot in spring, over dark-green leathery foliage up to just 7cm long. Probably best in milder gardens or as a potted specimen, afforded a little protection in winter. A small or large shrub, or even a small tree given a long time and the right conditions. For neutral to acid humus rich soil.
