Carpinus japonica

Like so many things from Japan, this species naturally makes a very graceful specimen, in form, foliage and seed. A wide spreading small tree with drooping yellow catkins in spring, followed by conspicuous, highly attractive, greenish-white, pendulous seed clusters from summer onwards. The foliage is slim and elegantly tapered with prominent parallel veining. Hardy and easy.
