Carpinus polyneura

Described in Grimshaw and Bayton's 'New Trees' as "another exceptional new tree to cultivation". A particularly elegant small to medium sized Chinese Hornbeam with long slender, semi-pendulous shoots clad with long, pointed, strongly veined leaves which emerge a rather gorgeous red through the growing season and persist very late in the year. Hardy and suited to most soils.
