Chionanthus retusus

A hardy large deciduous shrub, or small tree after many years, grown for its massed display of filigree snow-white flowers in early summer, when the crown literally turns white. These flowers are followed by small plum shaped bloomy-black fruit. Very hardy and long lived, an exceptional specimen can be seen at Kew for example. Suited to most soil types.
