Cornus ‘Blooming Pink Tetra’

New on the scene in the UK, this weirdly named but excellent cultivar was raised in Japan by Hagawira Toshihiro and appears to be almost certainly a hybrid of C. kousa and C. hongkongensis. Unsurprisingly, this has semi-persistent leaves and red tinted young growth, but the stand out feature is the exceptional and long lasting deep orange-red autumn colour on much of the foliage. The flowers bear pink bracts in the style of C. kousa in June. This should make a large shrub or small tree for most decent soils, except thin chalk. Hardy.
