Crinodendron hookerianum

The 'Lantern Tree' from Chile forms a large evergreen shrub with dark, narrow foliage. From the branches in May hang a multitude of dangling, long-stalked, crimson, lantern-like flowers. Not for limy soils, this highly regarded shrub requires a sheltered position, where it will be quite hardy over most of Britain.
