Deschampsia cespitosa ‘Garnet Schist’

An early flowering form from Scotland, introduced in 2012. Wispy flower heads on stems to 1.2m show hints of red and have a reflective sheen when still in bud. These turn to a fine mist of golden-buff as they open out and the season progresses. A dense clump of deep green foliage remains at 30cm high. Any reasonable soil in sun or light shade. Deciduous.
