Disanthus ovatifolius (syn. Uocodendron)

Recently introduced from the Chinese border of N Vietnam, this has even more recently been described as a new species. A large evergreen shrub, or small tree to 5m in the wild, with elegant narrowly ovate foliage flushed with pinkish-purple in the new growth. Rather Hamamelis-like deep red small flowers are borne in the leaf axils in late spring. Proving hardy, to at least -10c so far.
