A vigorous, hardy, sweet smelling deciduous large shrub when the masses of fragrant white flowers are borne in May and June. These are followed by splendidly tasty small red fruit en masse in autumn, which look very fine combined with the leaves; soft green above and silvery beneath. The fruits are tart at first in the mouth and change within a few seconds to deliciously sweet. A naturally nitrogen fixing plant and very useful in forest gardening. For all ordinary soils apart from the very thinnest chalk, in sun or semi-shade. A heavy cropping clone from Devon.
