Cream-white flowers with soft yellow centres in April-May on unusual and distinctively congested panicles up to 50cm tall over a large mound of foliage with strikingly spiny and undulate margins; each leaflet up to 15cm long emerges heavily red mottled. A Darrel Probst introduction from China and very different to the better known 'Caramel', which is now treated as a clone of the recently described species E. jinchengshanense. At its best in humus rich soil in shade, not bone dry in summer. Hardy.
