Eriobotrya deflexa

A Taiwanese endemic and closely related to E. japonica, but with less glossy oblong foliage which emerges splendidly copper-red and is one of the finest trees for this effect. Panicles of scented creamy-white flowers in spring and early summer. For a sheltered position, this is best in the milder parts of the UK, where it can be absolutely spectacular and would be highly suited to inner city plantings, especially London. Excellent specimens are also to be found in Cornish and other coastal, milder areas.
