Escallonia resinosa

If you like the aroma of curry on a warm moist evening, this is your plant. This South American evergreen large shrub bears resinous-sticky foliage which emits a strong fragrance, especially after rain. White flowers in summer. Generally hardy throughout the UK, and especially if sited sensibly, in sun or semi-shade and with some shelter from freezing easterly winds etc. A good seaside plant, resisting sea winds well and happy in all well drained soils.
