Euptelea pleiosperma

A quietly handsome small tree or large shrub from the E Himalaya and W China. The heart shaped leaves are somewhat elm or birch-like, but with drawn out tips and emerge copper-red in spring, often turning to attractive shades in autumn. The show of petal-less flowers in spring is notable for the red colour of the anthers. Hardy and tolerant.
