Firmiana simplex

'Chinese Parasol Tree'. Incorrectly assumed to be tender by many, this striking and exotic looking tree has grown perfectly here in my very cold rural frost pocket garden for at least 20 years. During that time it's proven itself to be BONE hardy - even thru Dec' 2010 etc at -14c! Makes a small to medium sized deciduous tree with outsized maple-like leaves on very stout, green shoots: the bark staying green to the ground for years. Appreciating warmth in summer, this will revel in a climate change future of higher temps and is considered an very resilient tree in Asia.
