Hedychium wardii

A relatively new introduction from NW Yunnan, China which has settled in very well to UK gardens. Most distinct from others in cultivation, this species produces 15cm tall cone-like inflorescences from August onward, from which emerge clusters of large scented, clear yellow, butterfly-like flowers with very short filaments. Generally hardy in the ground throughout most of the UK it seems.
