Hesperocyparis forbesii

A rare endemic from S California, closely allied to Hesperocyparis guadalupensis, from Guadalupe Island, Mexico, and equally fully hardy in the UK, where it makes a small evergreen tree of upright form, broadening with age, with light green foliage and potentially gorgeous peeling bark in shades of purple-red and light or dark brown. Very drought tolerant and fully suited to a warming climate in the UK. Rarely offered. For a sunny position in any reasonably drained soil.
