Holboellia brachyandra

The largest flowered species in this most attractive genus, from the mountains of N Vietnam and SE China. Clusters of up to nine palest-pink, exceptionally large, scented flowers, up to 2.5cm long on equally long contrasting red-purple stalks, are borne in late spring. Evergreen foliage is trifoliate, with three leaflets per leaf. Up to 5m high and probably best somewhat sheltered in winter, though this has thrived with me here in my cold rural frost pocket for a number of years and flowers strongly even with permanent light shade of a birch.
