Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris var. minor

A rather cute and unusual form of this classic climber from Yakushima Island, Japan, with the leaves small, rounded and with red petioles when the plant is in a juvenile state, which can last for many years, becoming more like the familiar type as it starts to climb. Beautiful, scented white lacecaps freely produced in early summer, even on north walls. Hardy.
