Lagerstroemia subcostata var. fauriei ‘Fantasy’

Outstandingly good peeling patchwork bark, showing shades of copper-orange, rust, cinnamon and grey, depending on season. Elegant slim leaves held on layered, spreading branches from a vase shaped multistemmed trunk; more upright than 'Townhouse'. White flowers in late summer. This is a selection from the original US introduction from Yakushima. Preferring sun and summer warmth, this is much hardier than L. indica and very drought tolerant. All effort should be made to try this exceptional small deciduous tree from S. Japan. Introduced to the UK by Pan Global'.
