Dumasia truncata ex Kyushu

Found originally in the moist mountain forests of Southern Kyushu, Japan, where it formed a relatively small deciduous perennial climber, growing from the base each year. with stems to about 2m high clothed in subtly variegated trifoliate leaves, each leaflet with a paler grey-green markings on the central veins. The pièce de résistance though are the violet pea pods, dangling in a pendulous fashion throughout the vine which follow the soft-yellow pea-flowers in late summer. These open to show blue seeds.
