Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Stared’

A really excellent form of this highly ornamental American tree though with a stupid name, which should be pronounced 'star red' apparently. The maple like leaves are very deeply cut into 5 to 7 lobes, with each lobe potentially with further lobing giving a snowflake-like effect, turning to vibrant shades of red in autumn. Any reasonable soil, even thin Cotswold limestone(!), but can tolerate fairly wet sites and makes the biggest specimens on deep moist soils. A very hardy medium sized tree, tolerant of hotter temperatures than we normally experience.
