Magnolia laevifolia (syn. Michelia yunnanensis)

A relatively newly available species forming a medium to large evergreen shrub with small leaves brown on their undersides when young, and deliciously fruity scented creamy white flowers opening flat in spring, borne from handsome velvety brown buds. Tough, easy and lime tolerant, this hardy species demands a prime position.
