Magnolia martinii

A member of the Michelia Section, this rarity bears elegant narrow evergreen foliage and star-like (nothing like a M. stellata!) primrose-yellow flowers in spring. A small tree, best sheltered from cold drying winds from the north and east, but otherwise this is proving hardy so far with the very few people who grow it. Has taken -9c in Vancouver without injury.
