Magnolia sprengeri ‘Eric Savill’

Raised at the Savill garden, Windsor, this has a unique flower colour amongst Magnolias, being a glowing magenta, which really is quite superb when seen on the bare branches in spring. However, the tepals are often distorted, so plant it where close inspection is not required. Makes a small to medium tree. In my experience M. sprengeri grows well on limey soils.
