A Swedish selection of this superb hybrid between the Japanese M. obovata and M. sieboldii, which emerged as a chance seedling. Possibly the finest selection of this hybrid with larger than normal flowers which are exceptionally fragrant, white, tulip shaped in bud, opening wide to show the central red stamens and are seen over a long period in summer. Cut flowers are so strongly fragrant they cannot be used in house decorations! A strong growing form, unlike some, making a small tree, very hardy and suited to most good soils, including alkaline if deep and fertile.
