Mahonia ‘Esme’

A new Mahonia, found as a chance seedling and named by Maurice Foster in Kent. This is most probably a hybrid of the variable M. duclouxiana and the splendid bold foliage is composed of well spaced fairly narrow leaflets in an unusual grey-green tone on red-pink tinged petioles. Long racemes of fragrant yellow flowers are produced on grey-pink tinged stalks in winter. A magnificent large shrub.
