Maytenus boaria

An evergreen small tree from Chile, and other S American countries, of simple graceful elegance, bearing smallish, narrow, glossy-green willowy foliage on slender branches and zillions of tiny green flowers in spring. Usually has an oval crown with either upright or drooping branches. The bark is pale grey and flakes off slowly in thin strips. Rarely planted in the UK, though hardy and of easy cultivation on most soils, even thin chalk.
